VAS Vehicle Activated Signs
Vehicle Activated Speed (VAS) Signs Helping to improve road safety in our parish
Published: 8 September 2026
Pebworth Parish Council operates Vehicle Activated Speed (VAS) signs at locations around the parish to encourage drivers to be aware of their speed and help promote safer driving.
VAS signs are designed to remind motorists of the applicable speed limit when a vehicle is approaching. The signs are activated when a vehicle is detected travelling above the relevant speed threshold and provide a visible reminder to slow down.
The VAS signs are rotated between locations throughout the month.
The current locations included on the rotation are:
- Middlesex
- Honeybourne Road
- Back Lane
- Broad Marston
- Meon Gardens
- Chapel Road
Each location will have a VAS sign for approximately two weeks before it is moved to the next location on the rota.
The rotation allows the Parish Council to provide a regular speed-awareness presence across different roads and areas, rather than concentrating the signs in one location.
Our aim
The purpose of the VAS signs is to:
- Remind drivers of the applicable speed limit.
- Encourage safer driving through residential areas and other locations where speed is a concern.
- Support the Parish Council’s wider commitment to improving road safety within the parish.
- Encourage motorists to be more aware of their speed.
The VAS signs are intended as a speed-awareness and driver-reminder measure. They are not enforcement cameras and do not issue penalties.
Additional VAS Sign
Pebworth Parish Council is currently in the process of purchasing an additional VAS sign. This will allow us to increase the coverage across the parish and provide a more frequent presence at the locations where speeding and road safety are of particular concern.
Once the additional sign has been purchased and is ready for use, the Parish Council will review the rota and locations to make the best possible use of the additional equipment.
Pebworth Parish Council will continue to review the locations and rotation of the signs and welcomes feedback from residents regarding road safety and speeding concerns within the parish.
